Keeping Heart Disease At Bay Via Proper Nutritional Supplementation

By John Robinson

Heart disease is the number one cause of death in the United States. No one can deny that's it one of the most nightmarish medical conditions around. Worry not because doctors confirm that it's highly preventable. If you want to keep it at bay, consider proper nutritional supplementation on a regular basis.

These days, there are so many different supplements on the market that claim to protect the heart. The truth is purchasing and taking all of them is not necessary. This is most especially true for individuals who are leading healthy lives and eating wholesome foods every single time.

However, there are those that are proven effective for lowering a person's risk of battling heart disease one day, such as omega-3 fatty acids. Loaded with healthy fats, these nutrients are scientifically-proven to keep the arteries in a healthy state. Omega-3 fatty acids help keep the arteries clog-free by lowering cholesterol.

Magnesium is also ideal for consumers who refuse to be diagnosed with heart-related problems. It's because the said mineral has the ability to lower one's resting heart rate by causing the heart muscles to relax more. People whose resting heart rates are low are considered as healthier than everybody else.

Consumers who like to keep their hearts out of harm's way may also opt for garlic supplements. According to scientists, garlic has the amazing ability to thin the blood. This only means that the formation of a blood clot can be prevented, thus lowering one's risk of having a heart attack and stroke.

Sadly, regular intake of various supplements is not enough to considerably lower your risk of battling heart-related issues in the future. There are other steps that you should take as you consume them, experts say. For instance, it's a good idea for you to opt for healthy living.

If you are a smoker, you should certainly turn your back on it right away. Everyone is aware of the fact that cigarette smoking is bad for the lungs. Unfortunately, not a lot of people know that this nasty habit is also something that can wreak havoc on the heart and arteries.

Alcohol should be consumed in moderation. That's because the intake of excessive amounts of alcoholic beverages is known to damage the heart muscles and cause elevation in the blood pressure. Men who cannot stay away from alcohol should consume no more than 2 glasses of it per day. Women, on the other hand, should stick to 1 glass a day.

Exercising on a regular basis is highly recommended as well. For best results, one must spend at least 20 minutes of his or her time to it. Health authorities suggest engaging in both cardiovascular and weight-training exercises. Working out should be done on most days of the week.

Keeping stress to a minimum is highly recommended, too. A person should dodge stressors that can be eliminated from one's life. Also, he or she should regularly participate in various stress-lowering activities. To make sure that the heart is safeguarded, getting 7 to 9 hours of high quality sleep per night is a must.
