Types Of Varicose Vein Treatment Dayton Oh

By Phyllis Schroeder

Varicose veins do not always require treatment. In the event that they are not causing any discomfort, one may not need to undergo treatment. There are various instances when the condition will require to be treated. The first instance is to ease symptoms it is causing pain. If there are complications like leg ulcers, skin discoloration or swellings, you will need to be treated. In considering varicose vein treatment Dayton oh residents will also do so for cosmetic purposes.

If one is supposed to undergo treatment, one may be required to undergo almost six months of self care. There are various modes of handling the condition. Compression stockings are one of the most used methods. Their design is such that they squeeze legs steadily so that circulation is improved. They are always tightest at the ankles and get loose gradually further up the legs. Blood flow to the heart is improved.

Compression stockings will help in the relief of pain, swelling and discomfort in the legs. It is however not clear whether the stockings will help in prevention of the varicose veins from worsening. It is also not clear if they prevent new infections. There are different sizes of stockings that can be bought from pharmacies or from the manufacturers. There are those who are supposed to wear the stockings for their entire life. These are those with deep venous incompetence.

Radio-frequency ablation involves the heating of the wall of the varicose veins through the use of radio-frequency energy. The veins are accessed via a small cut that is made above or below the knees. This is followed by guiding a catheter into the veins through an ultrasound scan. There is insertion of a probe into the catheter. The probe sends out radio-frequency.

The veins will be heated, making their walls to collapse and sealing them in the process. After the sealed veins are shut, blood will get redirected naturally to any of the remaining healthy veins. The procedure is performed under local anesthesia. You should expect short-term side effects like pins and needles. After this procedure, one may be required to wear stockings for one week or so.

Endovenous laser treatments will also involve inserting a catheter at the right position in the veins through the use of an ultrasound scan. Afterwards, a tiny laser is passed through the catheter. Lasers serve to divert short bursts of energy that then heat up veins. They are then sealed. It is a procedure that is done under local anesthesia.

If other forms of treatment do not work, there is the option of surgical procedures. The procedure is known as ligation and stripping to eliminate affected veins. It is a procedure that can be completed on the same day and is done under general anesthesia. This means the patient will be unconscious during the surgery.

An appointment with the doctor should be organized before getting to be treated. It will be a chance to ask questions and have any concerns addressed. The patient will know what to expect.
