The first three months after giving birth are usually a very hard period to deal with. The help of doulas to all new mothers who have successfully or unsuccessfully given birth is very important.

The help that postpartum doulas provide is not only physical, but emotional too. Their work involves making the woman feel like they are loved and wanted. Thus, they help to boost the confidence and satisfaction of the new mother so that they can step into their new role of motherhood ready. It is however, important to know that doulas are not medical practitioners and as such, do not have any experience in the field of medicine.

Some women, especially those who give birth for the first time are usually not sure of how to approach their new role. The responsibility of the doula in such a case is to help the mother to develop a better bond with their babies. This support does not end with the mother alone, but also extends to the father and other siblings in case they exist.

All these changes can be overwhelming, especially when coupled with the new responsibility of motherhood. One needs help and knowledge how to make the changes happen faster, more smoothly, and in the best way possible.

The changes can negatively affect new mothers if they are not given the necessary help. For example, a woman can be depressed to a point that milk production will be affected. A mother can be affected in many ways if they cannot produce enough milk for their baby.
