Conditions And Essential Oils For Relief

By Kenneth Schmidt

There are a number of conditions in which holistic medicine can be beneficial. Some of these are anxiety, depression, pain and terminal illness. As such, essential oils for relief is often a good option when experiencing these conditions. For, the essence of flora and fauna are used in place of dangerous chemicals found in most over the counter and pharmaceutical products.

There are a number of these natural essences. Although, most can be broken down into four categories. These four aspects include those named for the plant from which the essence was derived, ethereal, aetherolea and volatile. When it comes to the definition of the term essence, it generally refers to the fragrance of the flower which produced the oil. At the same time, it should be noted that the term essence in this case does not relate to essential fatty or amino acids.

Most of these essences are extracted by distillation which uses steam. As this is the case, unlike supplements sold at health stores, there is a far less likely chance of experiencing a drug interaction. While some individuals have seen improvement to allergies by using different blends, it is always best to check with a primary health care provider before doing so.

The natural health food and medical communities have been using essences as a healing method for years. While this is the case, there are now new and stringent guidelines which have been placed on anything considered a remedy by the FDA and other organizations. As such, most countries now have strict rules and guidelines when it comes to distraction, production and delivery of these items.

Interest had dwindled in relation to these products in the late 1970s and early 1980s. Since that time, it appears interest has seen somewhat of a revival, especially when it comes to the holistic health industry. One of the most common aspects of holistic health is that of Aromatherapy. As such, this natural healing form has contributed greatly to the future of essences as a valid medical treatment in the future.

In most cases, these essences are used to scent the air during various healing sessions. For example, massage therapists often either spray a scent or burn incense to create calm during treatment. Whereas, some individuals carry a nebulizer filled with a scent so that one can take a whiff when needing to feel calm or ease pain.

A good example of the four most commonly used essential oils are peppermint, lavender, tea tree oil and eucalyptus. All of these primary oils have been known to aid in creating an overall change in the body, mind and spirit. For example, peppermint has been known to increase energy, while lavender calms, tea tree oil is a great astringent and eucalyptus to aid in calming symptoms of cold and flu.

It is most likely Ibn a-Baitar whom we can thank for discovering the distillation process. Mr. A-Baitar is a well known Andalusian pharmacist, psychiatrist and chemist whom discovered the single distillation process to extract essences with the use of steam. Most chemists and others separating essence from flowers still use this process today.
