The first category of these drugs is the nonsteroidal anti inflammatory medicines. They often identified as NSAIDs. For a very extended period, these drugs have been used as equine analgesia. They exist in two types namely phenylbutazone and flunixin meglumine. They are applied to treat a large variety of disorders like reducing pains in the muscles, intestines, and the eye.

With the current research, it has been discovered that topical NSAID can effectively treat localized anguish as well as inflammation within the body of the animal. The next category is the agonists. These are systematic analgesics. Through laboratory work and clinical procedures, they have been proved to the most effective in the pain management. They usually are used to make the body of the animals not to be sensitive to anguish while performing standing operations. Besides, they are applied in the treatment of colic illness.

Those who provide health care to animals have also considered ketamine as an equine pain management option. The drugs are useful in preventing upregulation of neuronal pathways. Meaning, the drug helps to prevent an increase in anguish within the body of the animal under the stated condition. These medicines are useful in reducing the sensitivity of the body of the animals to anguish. Studies have shown that when administered in small doses, provide relief to animals having chronic pain syndrome.

Apart from the manufactured drugs, there are some local drugs which also help managing pains. Lidocaine and carbocaine are examples of such local drugs. These substances can as well help to lower the doses of anesthetics which may be accidentally inhaled. Scientists are doing research to determine how these drugs operate.

Tramadol is another local anesthetic. The drug is believed to contain some opioid properties, and they are usually available in oral form. This drug has some strange side effects thus it is advisable to consult the veterinarians before administering it.
