The Pros And Cons Of Consulting Psychics In San Diego

By Jeffrey Collins

There is nothing new about people claiming the ability to read the future, to communicate with the dead or to know things that nobody else knows. Para psychology, or the paranormal, is as old as humankind itself. In modern times, seers or oracles such as Nostradamus have gained legendary status and to this day there are people claiming to have a special talent for accessing hidden information, find missing persons and read the minds of other people. Many psychics in San Diego, for example, have thriving practices.

Para psychological phenomena have many critics. They say that practitioners who claim to see the future, locate missing people and predict future events are charlatans preying on the desperation of their clients. As an example, they site the fact that no practitioner in this field has even claimed to have predicted the winning lottery numbers. Critics maintain that these practitioners often cause more harm than good.

One of the most important accusations made by critics is that mentalists lead their clients down the path of ruinous decisions. They accuse practitioners of gaining the trust of their clients to such an extent that they do not make decisions for themselves any longer. Instead, they implicitly trust and believe what they are told. In this manner, many people make very poor decisions, often harming themselves and their loved ones in the process.

The fact remains, however, that many mentalists are regularly employed by police departments and businesses. The role these practitioners play in the solving of complex cases is even the subject of several very popular television series. There have been many examples of respectable leaders that consulted with mentalists before they made any important statements or decisions.

Believers defend para psychology by saying that no honest practitioner will ever claim to be able to foresee the future. Instead, they say, it is necessary to accept the fact that all living things consist of energy and that some highly sensitive people are able to hone in on that energy and to read it. This is what enables them to gain knowledge not readily available to less sensitive people.

It is interesting to note that many practitioners claim not to have any special talent other than the ability to communicate with some kind of spirit guide. This is not new. Prophets in the old testament claimed that they got their prophecies from God and many cultures acknowledge the fact that their ancestors speak to them trough chosen representatives.

It is perfectly legal to advertise mentalist services, clairvoyance or soothsaying. Many people find great comfort in the belief that they have received advice from beyond the grave. Others simply see the entire business as harmless entertainment. Clients should be careful, however, to maintain a measure of independent judgement and to acknowledge the fact that they, and they alone remain responsible for the decisions that they make.

One thing is for certain. Prophets, seers and clairvoyants have been around for many centuries and they will be around for many more. Those that believe in para psychology will not be detracted. Of course, everyone is free to believe what he wants.
