The Good Shepard Ministries is located in the city of Kisumu, which is in Kenya, East Africa. The house of worship is located in Homa Bay, Kenya, which is approximately seventy miles away by land or thirty six miles by Lake Victoria. The house of worship was called Christ Faith Evangelical Church, but the church is in the process of change. They are pleased to announce their new name, the Good Shepard House of Worship. Pastor David Oloo is the senior pastor at the Good Shepard House of Worship and also served in this capacity at the predecessor church beginning in 2007.
From 2005 to 2008 Pastor Oloo and his associates worked very hard to establish the Homa Bay orphanage, home to twenty five children. Sadly, the effects of AIDS impacted many of this kids, who lost their parents to the disease. Through his work with God, the good pastor has been gratified to be able to provide a safe home for these children. The funding for the orphanage has changed, but it continues to be a source of thankfulness for David Oloo.
In 2010 through a generous American supporter, the church was able to buy some land in Homa Bay. By 2011 the building was finished. Today the facility is standing and has a capacity of six hundred. The anonymous American donor continues to support the church by donating profits from her business.
Kisumu is a port city, culturally rich and naturally beautiful. The population is slightly more than four hundred thousand. Kisumu has a fascinating museum and it is a great way to learn about the history and the culture of the area. It has an impala sanctuary, which is also home to other animals such as hippos and cheetahs that are native to the Kenya. The city has raised the environmental awareness and prides itself on preserving the papyrus wetlands around Dunga Beach.
Bishop Nashon Oloo worked with his son, David, to build the orphanage and is known for his work in the community. The Oloos and the Good Shepard Ministries have similar practices and beliefs that you would find in any Western Christian congregation. The bible is the basis of their faith and the belief that it is the word of God. They believe that Jesus is their savior who died to atone for the sins of mankind. It is their practice to be baptized with full body immersion into the water.
The Good Shepard Ministries has a website that recommends some links and reading. They have observed the differences between the Western and the African ideas about the management and purposes of money. The recommended reading is to help bring the cultures together and eliminate misunderstandings due to the conflicting perspectives about money.
As with any humble servant of the Lord, Pastor Oloo will credit his accomplishments to the will of God. The work done in the ministries will always be guided by God and not for the glory of any one man or woman. The pastor is known for his good works and is thankful for the guidance of the Lord.
If you have the opportunity to visit the lovely port city of Kisumu, take the time to visit the ministries of David Oloo and the Good Shepard House of Worship. The beauty of the land and its people will inspire you. Both Kisumu and Homa Bay are on the shores of Lake Victoria, and the views are breathtaking. David Oloo would say that the blessings of God are bountiful.
