Why Many Patients Prefer An Alternative Treatment For Eczema

By Ronald Bennett

Having to live with a skin that is itchy, with oozing blisters, with constant inflammation and chronic irritation can only be hell on earth. Believe it or not, but fifteen millions Americans suffer from these symptoms that are caused by dermatitis and another 20 million experience similar symptoms that severely impact on the ability of sufferers to lead normal lives. Luckily, there is an alternative treatment for eczema patients.

Unfortunately, sufferers have to accept the fact that there is no permanent cure for this condition. The best that can be done is to treat the symptoms and alleviate the discomfort experienced by the patient. Nobody is immune from developing dermatitis. It can occur at any age and it manifest anywhere on the body. The severity of the symptoms also varies from one patient to the next.

Even if there is no cure there are at least some medication that can provide relief. Unfortunately, however, many patients experience unpleasant side effects that are almost as bad as the symptoms themselves. It is no wonder, then, that so many sufferers turn towards other solutions. There are indeed many supposed remedies for dermatitis but very little research have been done on their effectiveness.

It seems that this condition frequently afflicts people that suffer from a variety of allergies. Studies have show that the most likely allergens that will cause dermatitis include detergents, soap, perfumes, pet dander, mites and feathers. Certain food allergies also seem to trigger the development of the condition. By avoiding known allergens sufferers often experience almost immediate relief. It may be a good idea to get tested for the most common types of allergy.

Nobody doubts the fact that diet can also play an important role in the management of this condition. Patients are advised to avoid gluten and dairy. They should eat balanced meals that contain fresh, preferably organic vegetables and fruit. Many patients also benefit from taking vitamin B12 and Vitamin D supplements on a daily basis. Probiotics are also important and should be part of the diet.

It has been noted that a very large percentage of dermatitis sufferers experience high levels of emotional stress. As soon as the factors causing this stress is removed from the equation, they experience considerable relief. Sufferers may need to consult a therapist in order to identify the factors that cause their stress levels to rise. Disciplines such as meditation and yoga can also help to control stress levels.

The use of natural remedies have become extremely popular. Many patients find that the application of sunflower seed oil or coconut oil on afflicted areas of the skin provides immediate relief. There are also many natural remedies available but consumers should be careful before using untested preparations that contain a mixture of different natural ingredients. Any remedy that promises a cure should be avoided at all cost.

Living with eczema van be extremely trying. The symptoms can be painful, embarrassing and distracting all at the same time. Many sufferers are desperate to find relief and will try any remedy. It would be better to gather as much information as possible and to try and establish the underlying cause of the condition.
